There is still a huge gap between how astrology is perceived by the public and what its nature really is, partly because the media insist on a particular format of 12 Sun sign columns and until recently have only permitted the light, entertainment side of it any real focus.  There is also a misconception that astrology requires the practitioner to be psychic.   This is not the case although some astrologers may well have psychic abilities.

Put simply, astrology is the study of the cycles of the Sun, Moon and planets and how these relate to human and global affairs.   The motions of these heavenly bodies in relation to the stars and constellations are also observed by astrologers and have been  for many centuries.   Its earliest known development having taken place in Mesopotamia (current day Iraq) c. 2000 BCE and has  since, transversed many ancient civilizations including Mesopotamian, Greek and Indian and many more, each contributing to its development.

The astrologers tool is the chart (or horoscope) which is drawn for the time, date and place of a birth or event.   A chart can also be drawn up  for the time, date and place a specific question is asked and understood
by the astrologer.   The chart gives the positions of the Sun, Moon and planets at the time, date and place of the birth or event, etc.   The chart shows how we see the heavens from the Earth and it is an accurate map from an astronomical point of view.   The horoscope forms the basis of most of the astrologers work and is the root chart upon which any forecasting techniques are based.

Astrology has many applications from working with individuals to studying financial markets and politics.
